You are here: Office of Career Development

Welcome to the start of a brilliant career in international affairs.

The School of International Service's Office of Career Development supports the school's undergraduate and graduate students and recent alumni through all stages of career development. SIS graduates work in traditional professions, such as international development, communications, and foreign policy, along with newer fields that include political risk consulting, energy and food security, corporate social responsibility, and cyber technology, throughout the world. The Office of Career Development provides you with individualized assistance in exploring and preparing for successful careers in the field. Additionally, the office offers events and programs throughout the year to help you learn about career options, sharpen professional skills, and meet people working in your target jobs.

Learning negotiation skills

The Career Office helped me negotiate a higher salary.

I worked with a team member in the Career Office during my last semester. She was such an amazing resource, providing me with starting points for the job search and helping me perfect my first cover letters and resumes. In the last few weeks, I worked with a different team member who helped put me at ease about the interview and negotiating process and helped me practice my handshake. She even took time to speak to me on the phone so I could practice my counter offer script - which helped me get a $2,500 salary increase.
