Congratulations to Professor Malini Ranganathan for being awarded an American Council for Learned Societies (ACLS) Collaborative Research Grant! This award is for the book project "Corruption Plots, Imagined Publics: Narrating Urban Land in the Global South."
Professor Jordan Tama briefed senior Pentagon officials following the recent release of his report Maximizing the Value of Quadrennial Strategic Planning for the IBM Center for the Business of Government. For this report, his research resulted in identifying how four departments—Defense, State, Homeland Security, and Energy— have adopted the use of quadrennial planning reviews to inform the development of their strategic plans. Participants at the briefing included multiple Deputy Assistant Secretaries of Defense as well as principal directors and chiefs of staff within the Offices of Policy and Strategy. Conversation focused on the efficacy of the Quadrennial Defense Review in its role to inform strategic planning at the Department of Defense, as well as how new guidelines set forth in the 2016 National Defense Authorization Act will impact how the annual review is compiled and disseminated.
Prof. Lauren Carruth publishes in The Lancet: The commentary, co-authored with Amira Roess, Yitagele Tefere, Simenew Keskes, Mark Nichter and Mo Salman, calls for the development of better tuberculosis diagnostics and treatments for the millions of people potentially exposed to it by livestock and unpasteurized milk supplies.
